Portsmouth Promenade 5k
SOME runners take August off as a time to recuperate, but the Whittakers have been chalking up the races big-time.
Ben and Rachel were both in action at Portsmouth's Mountbatten Centre for the final race in the popular flat and flat Promenade 5km series. Ben finished 51st with a pretty useful time of 18min 41sec and Rachel clocked in for a time of 24:35 and 139th.
Stubbington team-mate Paul Farquharson was 82nd in 20:18 and Marcus Lee just five seconds adrift in 87th spot in 20:23.
Lauren Coates was the best place Stubby lady in 116th with 22:09, and Rachel Openshaw made a welcome return back to running after a brief lay-off with 156th position in a time of 25:36.
This year's series produced new records for both the men and women, as well as a record number of entries.
The race was won by Belgrave Harriers' Jonathan Blackledge in a time of 14:30, outsprinting Alton Runners' Toby Lambert to win by just one second. Winchester & District AC's Emma Patel, who was 25th overall, won the ladies' race in 17:23.
Overall, Chichester Runners' James Baker, who was fifth in the latest race, was the men's title winner, and Winchester's Kaye Mansbridge collected the ladies' crown.
