NICK Kimber ventured across the Solent to compete in the first ever Ryde Harrier's 10-mile road race.

A field of 89 runners took part in the event, which began from Ryde Rowing Club at the eastern end of the Esplanade, and took runners on a scenic, undulating run which took in Ryde, St Helens, Nettlestone, Seaview and Springvale, Appley and back to Ryde.

Nick finished 43rd in a time of 1hr 17min 18sec. The race was won by Paul Cameron from West Wight Road Runners in an impressive 55min 4sec.

Ulla Korenjak from Ryde Harriers was the fastest female in 17th overall with a time of 1:06.49.
