Ladies Required
ARE you female runner and would you be interested in helping a study which looks at the effects of sports massage on running?
Tanya Downes is a student at the Farnborough College of Technology in Northern Hampshire, who is a qualified personal trainer and also a sports massage therapist.
She is looking out for a dozen ladies who would be prepared to help her dissertation which examines the effects of sports massage after a 5km timed run.
There will be two groups of six runners; one group will receive leg massage for a period of six weeks, and a second group will receive no massage.
Tanya explained: "A fitness programme and a nutritional diet will be issued to all participants over six weeks. Testing will be on week one and then again on week six. "I am trying to see if I can use some equipment to see any changes in the quadriceps.
"My rational for this dissertation is there have been very little performance tests on whether massage assists participants in sports activities.
"Blood lactate has been used in a few journals with not much outcome that sports massage does help."
