Hampshire Road Race League Individual Standings

THERE'S no stopping Stubbington's Mark Le Gassick, who continues to head the Hampshire Road Race League individual standings.

Mark's superb second place at the Stubbington 10km road race consolidated his position at the top of the leader board with 525 points - 67 points ahead of second-placed James Buis from Lordshill Road Runners, who finished 11th in the fifth race of the HRRL series.

Southampton Running Club's Andy Morgan-Lee, who placed third at Stubbington in a close duel with Mark, lies fourth overall. The two runners have gone toe to toe this season, but the decision by Andy to miss the Hardley Half in November has allowed Mark to hold ascendancy.

Toby Lambert from Alton Runners, who won at Stubbington and November's Hayling 10, lies 22nd overall having only competed in two HRRL races.

SGR's Mike Harper continues to be a model of consistency. He finished 27th at the Stubbington 10 and lies eighth overall, and team-mate Andy Simpson, despite missing the two opening race at Overton and Hardley, holds 23rd spot.

As a result of some outstanding Stubby performances at the Stubbington 10, with five runners in the top 20, the men captured team honours to sit third overall in the HRRL Division 1. Southampton Running Club and Winchester Running Club are embroiled in a two-team tussle at the top on nine and 10 points respectively, with SGR third with 20 points - two points ahead of fourth-placed Victory AC.

SGR's B team ran well in the home race and lie seventh in the B division with 39 points. Southampton RC and Winchester RC hold first and second.

For the women, Lesley Harding, who is continuing her build-up to her first ever London Marathon in April, is SGR's top performer in the HRRL. At Stubbington, she finished 58th in 46min 12sec (although her watch says she was sub 46-min!), and is currently 23rd overall in the women's overall league standings.

Lauren Coates, who was in scorching form at the Stubbington 10 with 43:33 for 36th, lies 44th overall after two runs - Stubbington 10km and Lordshill 10.

In the Hamphire Road Race League standings, SGR's women sit on the fringes of the promotion race in Division 2. After placing third best at Stubbington, the ladies also hold third overall. Victory AC on 13pts and Overton Harriers on 14pts are in the promotion frame. The B team hold 15th place overall after five races.

The next HRRL race takes place at Christchurch on March 5 with the Mad March 20.
