HRRL Roundup
STUBBINGTON'S Ladies are pushing for promotion in the Hampshire Road Race League.
They are currently leading Division 2 at the half way stage after sixth place at the Victory 5. Stubby ladies hold a two-point advantage over Gosport Road Runners, with Hardley Runners a further seven points adrift.
League organisers had to amend Stubbington's results after the Hayling 10. A late change of numbers when one of our male runners ran with a female number, boosted the Stubby ladies' points tally.
The club held up their hands to the error, even though the runner tried to change the name on the day at the admin desk but was refused - the Stubby 10 must be the only race in the HRRL where this is possible.
With the seven best results counting, it means the ladies are in good shape for earning promotion to the top flight after a 1st at Overton, third at Gosport, fourth at Hardley and sixth at Victory.
The ladies' B team, who finished ninth in Portsmouth on Sunday, lie seventh overall, with Winchester & District predictably streets ahead at the top.
In the individual standings, Lauren Coates is the best placed lady with 50th place from two races. Susie MacGregor is 80th, and Lesley Harding 94th.
For the men, the A team lie fifth in the A division. Winchester and Southampton Running Club are fighting it out at the top and are way ahead, but a good performance at Stubbington which is likely, and some top finishes in some of the Spring 10kms could push the club upto third to challenge Portsmouth Joggers.
The B team, who were ninth at the Victory 5, lie seventh overall with Southampton Running Club top.
On the individual front, Mark Le Gassick, after sharing the title earlier this summer, is looking good again for a possible tilt. Southampton Running Club's Andy Morgan-Lee is unfortunately out injured at the moment. Mark has only run three HRRL's but lies a handy ninth.
Richard Gowen from Alton Runners is top of the table at the moment having run all five races, followed by Poole's Andy Clements with Winchester's George Hide in third.
Ray Gunner is 26th from four races and Mike Harper 28th from three. Ross Lamport, who has run just once at Gosport is 69th, with Zippy Grice 74th and Tor Duffin 79th.
Next stop in the Hampshire Road Race League is the Stubbington 10km on January 14th, followed by the Ryde 10 miler on January 28th.
