Hope 10k, 21st May 2006
ALASDAIR Ewing led the Stubbington charge at the Hope 10km road race, organised by Winchester & District Athletic Club.
This fifth staging of the event, which was based at the River Park Leisure Centre, took the 580 runners on a rainswept route which was hilly in parts.
The race raised fund for asthma research, as well as the running club's own fund to build a new athletics track in the city. Alasdair finished fifth in a time of 36min 4sec to win the Vet45 category.
The race was won by Winchester's Alex Pilcher, who came out on top with a time of 32min 7sec, which was excellent considering the blustery conditions.
Second was Winchester team-mate Jason Perry in 34:09 and third was Simon Stevens, another Winchester runner, in 34:43.
Stubbington team-mate, Chris Munro, who had managed to bag the race number 1, finished 86th in 44:52.
Making a welcome return to race action was Jane Heywood, who clocked 56:21 for 338th overall, and 86th lady on the day.
The women's winner was Natalie Cain , also from Winchester AC, whose time of 38:19 placed her 13 th overall in the race and more than three minutes clear of the next women.
