Stubbington Green Runners

Hayling Billy 5, 14th June 2006

ALL aboard the Hayling Billy, which made its ninth annual appearance on a sun-kissed evening this week and which attracted a dazzling dozen Stubbington runners.

The midweek race, which is sponsored by the Sinah Warren Leisure Club and the Portsmouth Round Table is a fast, five-mile flat road race, out and back along the old Hayling Billy railway line nature trail.

Money from the race will go to the Friends of Radiotherapy Trust at St Mary's Hospital in Portsmouth, helping to raise funds for the oncology unit in the fight for the early diagnosis and treatment of cancer. To date, the previous eight Hayling Billy races have raised £7,200.

On a good Wednesday evening for running, it was Ben Whittaker who was the first Stubby to finish in 31min 19sec, with Jon Leigh not far behind in 32:31. The fastest Stubbington lady on the night was newcomer Heather Bowers. A policewoman based at Cosham, she ran well to clock a time of 39:53.
