BUPA Great South Run 2006
IF you were thinking of entering for the BUPA Great South Run in Portsmouth this weekend, then you're too late.
Europe's premier 10 mile running event has reached its entry limit of 18,000 runners just six weeks after opening.
The event, which takes place on Sunday, October 22nd, has become increasingly popular with runners from the top elites to the fun runners fraternity, operates a first come first served entry policy.
Despite the new higher entry limit of 18,000, an increase of 1,500 on the 2005 event, it has still filled in record time.
David Hart, Communications Director for event organisers Nova International said: "The BUPA Great South Run has established itself as an international running event of the highest quality.
"The combination of a fast, flat course, a great backdrop and an enthusiastic and committed organising team has resulted in an event that has captured the imagination of the public."
If you are keen to run, you could still take part by claiming one of the many charity places which are up for grabs. Take a look at Runner's World where many of the charities advertise.
The Great South Run curtain raiser is the Tesco Junior and Mini Great South Runs on Saturday 21st October. Over 2,000 children were involved last year and these events remain open online at www.greatrun.org
