Stubbington Green Runners

English Schools' XC Champs

STUBBINGTON coach, Penny Forse, was a proud lady after the English Cross Country Championships.

Penny was delighted after two of the runners she coaches, Becci Gough and Hayley Pointer, enjoyed outstanding runs at the 2006 championships in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.

Becci, who trains with Penny's group at Stubbington club night on a Monday in Whiteley, finished ninth in the intermediate girls' race.

As a result the teenager, whose first claim club is Team Southampton, has been selected to represent England at the Home Countries International against Scotland, Wales and Ireland at Stowe School in Buckinghamshire on April 8th.

Becci was in fine form over the 3.5-kilometre course where 300 runners competed in the race. Hampshire's intermediate girls finished runners-up in the team competition.

Hayley helped the senior girls to the silver medal placing in the team event thanks to a 53rd place finish in a race which was dominated by Gloucester's Emily Pigeon, who won a record fifth consecutive English Schools' title.
