Stubbington Green Runners

Race Diary September

EVERY September, Colin Elderfield is prone to a bout of madness! You see Stubbington's fleet-footed run, well known in winter for the flashing red light he wears in the dark, sets himself the ambitious target of competing in two tough races in one weekend.

The Overton 5 does exactly what is says on the tin. It is a two-lap five-miler around the North Hampshire village staged on the first Saturday of the month. It's always hot, it is always hilly, and it is the start of the Hampshire Road Race League season. Organisers, Overton Harriers, also give out a tasty line in mugs for this one.

Colin has been a regular for the Overton 5 which tends to be an energy-sapping race on its own. But unbowed, Colin heads to Dorset the following day to compete in The Beast - a 13/14-mile tough along the cliff tops around Corfe Castle. It's not a race for the faint-hearted. But you can be sure Colin will be there.

These two races, among others, are included in the September race diary which is out now. So if you are looking to plan ahead a few races in early autumn, we've got the pick of the bunch from Hampshire and neighbouring counties. From road races to fell races to cross country - to gorilla runs!
