Chris Munro

STUDENT life, it's all study, study, study, isn't it?!! Well it appears that today's university undergraduates actually have time to free themselves from their studies to enjoy themselves.

Chris Munro has settled down to live in Manchester where he is studying an MSc in Applied Numerical Computing at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.

But he's managed to continue with his running after getting over a summer injury picked up while doing track and field.

Chris has competed in two Alexandra Park 5km. In the first one he finished 13th in a time of 21min 13sec. He accounts for the high finish since the Great North Run was on the same day - hence the small field. And then this past weekend, he clocked a personal best 20min 37sec in the race.

"There aren't any results as the club organising it, Manchester Frontrunners, is not very quick putting up results," explained Chris.

"The race is held in Moss Side so good motivation to run! The race is a flat 5k, and consists of three laps of a park with some tight turns.

"For students it is only £2 to enter and you get a free bottle of water, banana and chocolate bar. There are also spot prizes awarded."

Who needs Andy Simpson's chocolate bars when you get such a bargain deal oop north? Chris will be home soon for the Christmas break, and is planning to run the Hayling 10 at the end of the month.
