Charity Events
IF you fancy trying something athletic and a little different this summer, then Veronica and Peter Wright have an idea or two! They are hoping Stubbington members might be interested in two fun events this Spring/Summer.
On Sunday, April 30th, there is the Isle of Wight 100km or 50km Randonee. According to Peter and Veronica, this is not an easy ride. "We normally do the 100km, so if you have cycled round the harbours and think you could do it again - then this one is for you," they say.
The 100km event is an event whose route takes in the whole of the island, mainly following the Round-the-Island cycle route and taking minor roads and lanes where possible. It is way-marked by white cycle on blue island signs.
Each cyclist is given a Round-the-Island cycle route map with easy to follow directions to enable the rider to see the best of the Island scenery. You can join at any of the checkpoints on a clockwise route which are at East Cowes, Wotton, Bembridge, Alverstone, Whitwell and Yarmouth.
For the 55km event, this has a route using the eastern half of the island, joining any of the checkpoints at East Cowes, Wotton, Bembridge or Alverston. Both rides are fun events and not a race. All checkpoints are open from 9am to 6pm and entry is free.

There are five walks over 4 miles, 7 miles, 12 miles, 19 miles and 30 miles, all starting from Corfe Castle. Veronica and Peter completed one of the walks last summer. "We did the 19 mile last year," they say. "It was very tough and includes part of the Beast course with all those steps! You can walk, run or catch the train to Swanage - it is ideal for the family."
