Caroline Street Gets Into Deep Water!

OH WE do like to be beside the seaside. If you thought lovely Littlehampton was all deckchairs and knotted hankerchiefs, donkey rides, and bloomin' hard rock which tore out your fillings, then think again. For six Stubbington members headed to the sun-kissed West Sussex resort for a weekend of fun, and frolicking...and running. Here is Caroline Streets exclusive report!

Last weekend saw six SGR members joining our friends from Hardley Runners for a weekend in Littlehampton. Our group included Sian & Tony, Kathy, Di, Glen & Caroline.

A late reorganisation of the sleeping accommodation meant Kathy and Di were sharing with people they'd barely met. By morning Kathy arrived at breakfast sporting a pair of socks lent from one of the couples she'd been sharing with. It didn't take her long to make herself at home! She did suggest she'd left hers at home.

The Saturday was glorious so we all had a great time getting very muddy and tired. Some of us completed an 18 mile cross country "ramble" run while others opted for walking or off-road biking - on road bikes!.

By tea time, we were all suitably exhausted and ready for the next ordeal. We had split into groups of 6 to 8 people to help with the restricted cooking facilities. With two family-sized cookers between 32 people who all intend to eat together, cooking was interesting .... and very hot.  After dinner we enjoyed a walk along the seafront with a couple of people taking to the water. Then it was on to the serious part of the weekend - drinking and playing games.

Sunday was more relaxing; some went running in the rain, but our group opted for a walk along the seafront or relaxing in the Youth Hostel.

Next time we're invited to join in, I'll be putting an ad in the Green Runner. So keep your eyes open. These weekend spaces are taken really quickly.
