Brighton 10k, 19th November 2006
HE may not have been feeling on top of the world, but terrific Tim Crumpton checked in with his fastest 10km time for eight years at the Brooks Brighton 10km.
Tim joined nearly 3,000 runners who lined up on Brighton seafront for the race, which also incorporated the South of England Championship. He clocked a time of 38min 42sec to finish 168th.
Tim admitted that going into the race he had been tired, and the windy conditions had not made for ideal running, but he was still delighted to have run his fastest 10km time since 1998.
As for the race itself, a trio of runners, plus an unofficial runner who was wearing a wrong number, broke clear from the start and by the 3km mark they were more than 100 metres clear of the chasing group.
This group stretched their lead to nearly 200 metres by the finish with Jason Ward from Altrincham AC moving clear to win in 30 minutes dead, the fastest time this century.
Stephen Sharpe from Belgrave placed second in 30min 12sec, with Daniel Simmons from Cornwall recording 30:50 in third place.
In the women's race, last year's winner Naomi Warner from Thames Hare and Hounds did it again and with style. Out on her own right from the start, Warner finished more than one minute clear of her nearest rival in 34.13, nearly half of a minute faster than her winning time last year.
Chichester's Linda Spencer, in just her second 10km road race, was an excellent second in 36.16, with Danielle Sale (Orion) filling third spot in 35.37.
