Stubbington Green Runners

Braishfield 5, 11th June 2006

HE'S only here for the beer! Andy Simpson, Stubbington's lager than life character, was in spirited form at the Braishfield Beer Race.

Simmo finished eighth in the five-mile event, which was won by Southampton Running Club's Matt West in a time of 27min 17sec. Andy, fresh from his exertions the week before at the South Downs Relay, clocked 30min 27sec from a field which attracted many of the south coast's top runners.

Also in the event, which was organised by Romsey Road Runners, was Ben Whittaker who came 20th in 32:59, and Chris Munro, who was 55th in 39:10. The three lads made up a Stubbington team who finished sixth behind winners Southampton Running Club.

Rachel Whittaker flew the Stubbington flag for the ladies, coming home in straight nine-minute miles with a time of 45:00 and 97th place.

A total of 126 runners competed, with Tania Prendergast from Hardley Runners the first woman finisher. She was 17th overall in a time of 32:29.
