Stubbington Green Runners

Beginers Course Update

STUBBINGTON Green Runners' beginners course is proving a stunning success.

Twenty seven runners have enlisted on the eight-week course which is being staged evening Wednesday evening at Crofton School.

Each week, they have been taken out on a training session around the leafy streets of Stubbington and Lee-on-the-Solent. After the exercise, that has been followed by talks which have been given on a variety of running-related subjects by guest speakers.

The course has been aimed at runners of all abilities, and last week the club organised a one-mile time trial. "This was so the runners could see how they are doing at the start of the course," explained one of the Stubbington coaches, Caroline Street.

"Times won't be published, since they are a personal measurement which will be repeated at the end of the course. Hopefully, everyone will be able to see how their fitness levels have improved."

At the end of the time trial, Alexandra Sports, which is based in North End, Portsmouth, held a session advising on the importance of using the correct equipment, particularly running shoes. This inspired plenty of questions from newcomers.
