Beginners Course, Spring 2006 (Start date is now Wed 29 March)

HAVE you got the running bug and don't know what to do about it? A tendency to feel hot and sweaty, a regular urge to put on a pair of running shoes in all weathers, you've heard the word fartlek but aren't sure if it's swearing, and you've taken a sudden liking to lycra?!! Well, let Dr Stubby help you who can prescribe an eight-week course of treatment for you.

From Wednesday, March 29th through to Wednesday May 17th, Stubbington Green Runners will be running a beginners' course. Each week, there will be a training session starting at 6.30pm designed to build on your confidence and stamina, followed by a session indoors when a guest speaker will talk on a variety of subjects related to running.

Guest speakers will give talks on a variety of subjects about running and keeping fit. Portsmouth-based sports shop, Alexandra Sports, will be coming to the session on April 5 to talk about sports kit, and making the right choices.

Penny Forse, who is one of our members and who also competed in the Montreal Olympics, is going to give a talk. We are also hoping to have a nutritionist and a sports injury/massage professional to come along and give a demonstration.

The course will be suitable for all abilities. Absolute beginners can be assured we will treat them gently - we are trying to encourage not discourage and each session will be supported by members who have many years of experience between them.

It will be a step by step training programme, run at your pace, and encouraging you to run with others - that's when the most progress is made, and it's astonishing how far you can run without knowing if you are caught in a conversation.
