TOR Duffin was the Lord of the Manor - well, Manor Farm - when he won the latest round of the Today's Runner cross country league.
Tor, who lives in Oxford where he works for the county council, was the chief Tor-mentor on Sunday when he led home a field of 242 runners around the Bursledon venue.
This was Stubbington's home race, but the club still managed to turn out strong entries in both the men's and women's races.
Tor helped the men's team to win the team prize on the day thanks to a blanket finish just behind with Mike Laws 13th, Mike Harper 14th, Ray Gunner 15th and Andy Simpson 16th. Clearly the boys were on a group outing in the woods.
The ladies team were 12th and it was good to see Jane Butler coming back into some form after a troubled 12 months with injury. She was the first Stubbington lady to finish in 40th, with Rachel Openshaw just behind in 42nd. Overall Stubbington's combined men's and women's team were sixth, with Liss Runners, who have dominated the team event throughout the series, once again triumphant on the day.
Several Stubbington members helped with the marshalling and organisation of the race. Organiser, Glen Street, said it was good to see so many new faces running and added: "Thanks to all the marshals, to Di and her catering army. Although we had 8 more marshals than in previous years, some runners got lost, but this was because of some "oiks" moving signs around in the woods.
"We have a pair of Saucony running shoes that were left behind. Anyone claiming ring me 01329 845330."
The next round of the Today's Runner series takes place at Denmead on Sunday, February 26th, with an 11am start. Unfortunately the Hart Road Runners race has been cancelled (click here for details).
