Stubbington Green Runners & AC

The Beast, Corfe Castle - 4th Sept 2005

THE Beast - the race name is enough to strike fear in any runner before they have even laced up their shoes, but for Stubbington's Alasdair Ewing he was equal to the challenge.

Dubbed this year as "The Dirty Dozen", this 13/14-mile undulating and rugged race along the picturesque Dorset coastal path attracted 480 runners for an event which started and finished in the shadow of Corfe Castle.

Alasdair came home in tenth place in a time of 1hr 30min 39sec, just four minutes behind race winner, Graham Jex from Poole Runners, who finished in 1:26.25 - barely two seconds ahead of second-placed Hugh Marsden from Exmouth Runners. Lynda Faulkner from the Dorset Doddlers was the first woman to finish in 1:38.01 for 35th place overall.

Stubbington was represented by two other runners at The Beast. John Reeve managed to finish under the two hour mark with his time of 1:56.43 for 158th overall, and Colin Elderfield, a regular runner at The Beast and who had competed for the club at the Overton 5 less than 24 hours earlier, clocked 2:26.29 for 355th .
