Test Way Relay - 10 Sept 2005

STUBBINGTON Green Runners will be sending a strong team to compete in September's Test Way Relay.

Great Britain international Andy Vernon, fresh from a near medal-winning run at the European Junior Championships in Lithuania, is scheduled to run the anchor leg for the men's team in the 45-mile eight-stage relay which takes place on Saturday, September 10th.

Stubbington are hoping to field four teams for the event, including a men's, men's veterans, women's and mixed squads.

The race, organised by Hardley Runners, starts at Inkpen Beacon on the Hampshire/Berkshire border, and winds its way down the Test Way via Linkenholt, Stoke Hill, Middleton, Wherwell, Stockbridge, Mottisfont, Romsey, and the finish by the Salmon Leap pub at Totton.

This is a race where it's not only about speed - you also have to keep your wits about you. There are marshalls at the handover routes, however runners have to pick their way along a designated route, which is sometimes not very easy to pick out. Runners have to follow the official Test Way marked route, signed with green TWs along the way.

Leg routes vary from the opening 7.1km run from Inkpen Beacon to Linkenholt, to the final 11.5km finish from Romsey to Totton.

This popular relay attracts many of the top running clubs in Hampshire, with the ladies and mixed teams starting off an 11am, and the men's team getting under way at midday .

Last year, Southampton Running Club completed the double by winning both the men's and ladies events, with Totton Running Club claiming the mixed prize.

It is important Stubbington club runners share transport as much as possible. For more details, contact Chris Hall for the men's teams at hally.pfc@ntlworld.com or for the women's and mixed teams, Chris Haskell at haskells@sarisbury.fsnet.co.uk
