Isle of Wight Fell Running Championships

NICK Crane was Stubbington's lone representative at the Isle of Wight Fell Running Championships.

The gruelling two-day competition offers three races in two days - the St Boniface Fell Race, the Ventnor Horseshoe and the Wroxhall Round.

This year's event, organised by Ryde Harriers, attracted 110 competitors from across the region, including a strong contingent from Cambridge Harriers, although only 51 runners chose to compete in all three of the runs.

Nick competed in the second race of the series, the Ventnor Horseshoe, which is a seven-mile run with a 1,500 ascent. He finished 55th from the 85-strong field with a time of 1hr 14min 43sec.

Dean Lacy from Cambridge Harriers won this race in 56min 20sec, going on to capture the overall series following a hat-trick of wins.

The other two races included the opening St Boniface Fell Race, a three-mile run with a 775 feet ascent, and the finale, the Wroxall Round, a sapping 13-mile run with a 1,500 ascent.
