Overton 5 (HRRL) - 3rd September 2005
STUBBINGTON Green Runners will be hoping to improve on their fourth place team finish when the Hampshire Road Race League season opens at Overton this weekend.
Final results just published for the 10-race series show that the men's squad placed fourth in Division One, with Mark Le Gassick coming second overall. Andy Simpson was 12th
Mike Harper paced 14th , Zippy Grice 25th , and Tor Duffin 33rd in the individual standings.
Stubbington's league organiser, Mike Harper, said: "As you can see, we are relying heavily on five athletes, so any help this season would be much appreciated."
The ladies struggled even more than the men and were relegated to Division Two during 2004/2005, but ladies captain, Chris Haskell will be hoping to encourage more ladies to compete in the league.
Mike added: "Although we were relegated from Division One, the ladies did outscore all the Division Two teams. This implies quite a difference in standard between the divisions, so with a little bit of effort the ladies should be competing towards the top of Division Two." Individually, Maria Millican came 30th overall.
After Overton which takes place on Saturday, September 3rd ( 3pm start), the next race will be the Hardley Half Marathon on Sunday, October 16th , a race which the club scored poorly in. In November, it's the Lordshill 10, replacing the Gosport Half Marathon which was dropped for changing the date late on last year, and the Hayling 10, before our own 10km road race in January.
