Hants Road Race League
THE opening Hampshire Road Race League event of the season gets under way at Overton during the first weekend of September - and Stubbington hopes to have a strong contingent competing.
The Overton 5 on Saturday, September 3, is the curtain-raiser to the new season - the first of a series of road races from five miles to 20 miles at venues across the county between September and May.
The race is run over an undulating course of two laps of the village centre starting at Overton Recreation Centre. It is a challenging course, with a tough hill for starters, but a nice downhill at the end of each lap.
Car parking will be at Town Meadow, which is situated about 600 metres from Overton town centre on the B3400.
Stubbington's men's and women's teams compete in two divisions, and there are also competitions for men's and women's 'B' teams - you will make team captain Mike Harper's day if we can field a large number of runners for Overton.
You can enter the race by downloading an entry form at http://www.overtonharriers.org.uk/ The cost is £6 for affiliated runners, or £7 on the day, with cheques payable to Overton Running Club. The contact is: John Hoare, Race Secretary, Overton Harriers & AC, 5 Sapley Lane, Overton, Basingstoke, Hampshire RG25 3LG.
The race starts at 3pm, and beforehand there are a series of children's races from 2.15pm. There is also a one-lap two-and-a-half mile fun run at the same time.
The Hampshire Road Race League is a popular and varied programme of races, and it is a series well worth marking ahead in your diary for the season.
