Stubbington Green Runners & AC

Hants XC Goodwood, 5th November 2005

IT was ladies day at Goodwood, but Penny Forse wasn't interested in putting a bet on the gee-gees!

The Hampshire Cross Country League rolled into West Sussex for the second round, and once again it was Penny who enjoyed another good run at Goodwood where conditions under foot were fair, and the sun made a brief appearance.

Penny finished 50th in the 6km race from a field of 106 lady runners. Geraldine Perrier placed 81st and Nicola Wedick, competing in her first Hampshire Cross Country League race, was not far behind in 81st . The senior ladies improved on their last outing at Farley Mount with 15th position in the team rankings.

Winchester ladies dominated the senior and vets with two firsts, and five women in the top 10.

In the men's race, Stubbington senior men had a stronger team out but only finished in 9th place. They will need to put out stronger teams for the last three races to avoid relegation from the top division.

There was a notable performances were from Gordon Reid, who flew round and finished in 45th. Then came the rest of the team with Tor Duffin 59th , Kiran Raval 66th , Chris Hall 70th and Steve Marshall 100th .

It was an excellent performance from Kiran who is coming back to fitness and Chris was an impressive 9th vet home. Special mentions go to Paul Coffin who answered the call to "have a go" at cross country races and took part in this, his first Hants XC race.

John Exley, who has been in exile from the Hants XC races for a few years now, decided to take a break from his maths marking and setting his pupils more fiendish homework, by turning out for the team.

A good fast race again with near perfect conditions under foot, saw 240 male runners complete the course. The winner was Angus Maclean (Team Southampton) in 26.31, some 48 seconds ahead of second place.

In the junior races, Stubbington had two competitors with Jamille Hogg racing in his first cross country race and Ryan Gunner.

Jamille is using the cross country races for winter training for next year's track season after being advised by his two coaches. He finished 35th in the under-17 race.

Ryan had a good under-15s race finishing in 27th place out of 71 competitors.
